A walk back in time

There is just too much that went on the past week to give you an hour by hour report so let me just say that we said good-bye to Louise with a packed house. She was the music director for her church for 40 years and there was great support there. She also left us the most wonderful gift of all. She had planned the service. She had the music picked, the scriptures picked, the whole service was planned and it took all the guess work out.
What a gift.
We gave her the send off she wanted and it made our lives better not to wonder what she wanted.
We all laughed, cried and shared stories and most of all felt her there with us. She would have loved the service.
I could hear her singing as if she was there with us, smiling and chuckling when the pastor stumbled on a word  and as he laughed at himself he said Louise would have been pointing down from the choir at him, I am sure she was.
She was there with us and we will carry her with us always.

This was our view yesterday morning as we left a B&B in the Va. Mountains. I had paid and booked the retreat months before we knew we would have a service last weekend. We left family and friends and with raw emotion traveled to the Va. mountains.
It cleansed us. We slowed down and walked, talked, drove the parkway, hiked to see a waterfall and just took in the beauty of nature and knew we walked with our past love ones. What is it about water that clears and frees your mind?
the view from the B&B

the view from our beer tasting

the view of the waterfall

the chicken coop- do you think they watch the animal planet or the history channel?

Our room at the B&B- fancy huh?

My mother's people??? Maybe...

wild life....

Today is a day to step lightly back to work.
We are happy that we put in extra time last fall and throughout the winter months to give us the time to take a week off.
I hope to post more pottery pictures soon.
Right now I am still in the comfort of family love.
 Cheers to you all,
 M

What a gift she gave you, a trip to the mountains and time to slow down. Time with family is the most important thing we have. It's sad in a way, but some of the best times I have had have been at funerals of uncles or aunts or grandparents, because I was able to reconnect with family members I hardly ever see.
Peace to you and Mark!! xo

The Virginia retreat seems a perfect respite from the all too familiar trials of life, so glad you were both able to recoup there; your love and caring for Louise show beautifully here.

Anna- you know about the beauty of those Va. mts! Makes me want to buy a house there, or at try to visit more often.

Loved seeing you and Mark but it was waaaay too short. I'll see you at your place soon.

Glad you gave Louise the send off she deserved. She was a tough old bird and she put in a few bonus years much to the delight of all.

The B&B sounds like just what you needed. Perfect timing!

That's definitely not the Virginia we lived in. I don't recall any mountains like that in Fairfax County. Sounds like a lovely trip, though sad that it had to include Louise's service. On the other hand, when they're done well those services are great gifts for the surviving friends and family. Sounds like that was what you had.

Hi Meredith -

Where did you find the Slacks Overlook? On the Parkway?

Thanks

Becky

What a nice bit of serendipity to have a mini vacation already planned as a wind down from a high intensity experience.

The B&b was the perfect finish.
Back to work.
I feel as if I am walking through sludge...a bit of tired going on!

The geek side of me knows that falling water releases negative ions which make us feel positive, they also help clean the air which may have something to do with it. I also think it's that zen of repetition that we experience as potters that we also see in the waterfall that make us feel good around them. And they tend to be beautiful.
It sounds like things have been well planed, even unintentionally for you. How wonderful.
