The fat and skinny of it

I gave up the studio for a few days to work on things like the house, gardens and paperwork.
It happens.
Sometime I think I can do it all and I am buzzing right along and then I have my very own little meltdown. I do this in private because it is cute when you are two, but not as cute when you are well over the age of two.....
Then I need some time to regroup and step away from the clay and breath some new thoughts and get other things done.
I find I have to set time lines for myself. Otherwise being self employed can eat you up.
It eats away every second and stepping out and away gives you back some focus on other things in life.
Not that I get it all done on those days because I can distract myself very easily as well.
Hey- what's over...squirrel...
What was I saying???
With me out of Mark's way for a few days he worked all alone and could listen to his music and be loud or not loud and make some vases.
I love the fat one.
This is a shape he does not make as often as he use to and there is something about a fat pot that just draws me in and makes me want to hold it.
Maybe it has the same effect that chubby babies have on me...must squeeze....
There there are the tall ones- Noble and proud.

And a new handle going on there.... It will be interesting to see this one play out.

I was up way too early this morning and could not find my camera.
I finally remember where I had left it.
As I was walking back from the studio the moon and 1 single star were just hanging in the muggy air
( it's going to be a hot one today) and I had to see if I could get a picture.
My camera doesn't do great pictures in the near dark but I did get one that shows the moon.

I am back out to the studio today so if you need me.....I'll be working.
Cheers!
M

I'm digging that new handle and the sliver of the moon. When I need a break I tell Gary I'm all 'cooped up' and I usually want to go for a drive, but with fuel prices, hot weather and rain, that's not always a good choice. Ha.

Meredith - I posted something similar to your post yesterday - it is hard to do it all! lol

I love that big fat vase of Marks - it does remind me of a chubby baby!

Great shot of the moon!

Time out refreshes you.

I must go walk on the mountain here soon!

Looks like Mark is in his Greek temple phase. Those big vases would look just about right among the marble buildings of Delphi.

Love the texture on those pots. Makes me want to come over and pick them up.

Love the tall vases~ I need to work on tall with the big gas kiln that needs filling. Does he make them in separate pieces and assemble?

Looks like you are up and at 'em early if you are catching the moon and star before your day gets started.

Have a good one!

If you are outside in the morning and the moon and stars are out, you are up TOO early :) but look at the beautiful things you get to see when you get up that early! I love that fat vase, I like making fat vases, fun to Raku fire. I'm finding myself very easily distracted these days, too much going on in my head, need to empty it out!

i agree with all... the chubby vase is a winner. jeff and i find that we each need time in the studio alone without the distraction of each other, even though we truly enjoy each others company in the studio. i will say, i am most productive on the days he is at his mom's doing yard work!

We all need to mix it up a bit! Good for the creative brain :o) I LOVE those big vases and those handles are just FAB!! Since I would never be able to make such big, beautiful vases like that I would be dying to sgraffito all over those big guys! :o)

well- hello! I did get up too early this morning and it was about 5 am when I took the picture of the moon.
There are those times that I really love being up before the world starts and other times where I would love to go back to bed.
The fat vase is a sweetie.
the taller one is not as tall as it seems.
Under 14 inches. I was shooting up and that does make them look taller.
These are made in one piece but he does do some in 2 and 3 pieces.
Somewhere back in the blog I think I covered that but I may need to do that again.
Well lunch break is over so I am heading back out there- I did take a 20 minute quiet time for a my lunch break- it was good for the sole.
Cheers!

Hi Meredith,
Me too! Or 2! I have just turned down a commission, (and I never say no...), I just have too many things going on right now and sleep is very difficult. I'm wondering if saying "no" to something impossible shows that I have grown up a bit.., maybe I am 3 now! I love fat, chubby, pots.... very hugworthy, comforting, and make me feel good about my middle aged figure. Love the 5am moon and the star!

Looks like I'm not alone in my early morning (before the crack of dawn) meanderings! I love getting up before the rest of the world.

Hope you're having a great day!
