Fill 'er up please and while you are there check the oil

We have been throwing this past week trying to get our behind selves in line for a firing before a show on the 19th.
yea, I know, we should have been ready for this so we could just breeze into November.
But who prepares for chaos?
No one ever thinks they will get behind the slow bus of life or that a tractor will just pull out in front of you.
You can be humming down the highway when you get hit by a life moment!
And then there you  are with your hood up waiting for a tow truck.

So do you just wait or forge ahead in hopes that you can get enough work finished to load up the big kiln to fire.
As I see it we have 2 weeks- anything is possible in two weeks.
A lot can happen in 2 weeks.
Empires can fall and Roman can be built in two weeks, right?

I always think to myself that I will not be here next year doing the scramble, but no one plans for the life moments.
If you knew they were coming you could just put them off.
"No", you could say, "this is an inconvenient time, could you please wait to bleed until December?"
January would be better and if you could just put a brace on things I could really deal you in in February. I think I am open that month........
But, as we all know, life does not work that way and so we just figure it out while we go about our daily schedules.
Pots will get made, we will make our show, life moments will happen.
Meanwhile if you are out I have a list for you- I could use a runner for a month.
You're not busy are you?

Girl, you have way more there than I do! Life got in my way this past week too, I didn't touch clay and I too, have just a couple of weeks to get everything together. Oh well, we will have what we have..... good luck with the big fire!

Hey Meredith - Looks like you're going to have really nice pots for the show and 2 weeks is just enough time!

I often catch myself having the feeling that I haven't done enough, or haven't done enough in the right way, or won't be ready... Then I remember the story about the gravestone imprinted with the words "She got it all done." Wow, I know THAT's not exactly what I want my life to be about. If so, all the life moments (good and bad) just become a list of to-do's. (Well, really I DO want to get it all done... but I also want to be there for family and friends in a way that really counts. Can't I have it all? All the time? :)

Have a great day with wonderful "life moments"!

I hear ya sista! With an impending move...wondering when I will have to give up the studio....trying to stock up....I don't even have any shows looming, though I will have a studio at LibertyTown again (starting in November!) and want to have good holiday stock. So yea, I feel your pain and will continue to move through it as you will!

Breath Deep, live well Meredith. This game does seem to get a whole lot more interesting as we get older.

the game has diffidently changed with age- at a time when most of our friends have retired we are still plugging away with the clay.
I often wonder if there is a second career choice for me.
But most days I just get out in the studio and work. I think that is all we can do.
Best of luck to you all as we close in on the holidays.
And to move right now- just would not happen.
Would they notice if you just stayed in your studio- house for sale comes with live-in potter...
works for food and bed!
Thank you all!

Age does have it disadvantages in so many ways that's for sure, hang in there, something better is always around the corner, interesting triangular pieces at the back, are they plates?

I'm so goal oriented that I forget it's all about the journey -- and so I make myself crazy trying to accomplish unrealistic goals.

Good advice -'breathe' have a glass of wine, laugh and remember it is really only about the journey.

Your pots look fabulous - the 'show' will go on . . . . and you and Mark live a wonderful life - full of a smiling grand daughter and lovely vistas -- that's what's it's really all about . . . .

Lovely pots accumulating on the shelves. Good luck for the firing. Shame we don't live closer, you would have had a couple of volunteers for fetching and carrying! I appreciated your posts about the tiles, it was good to see a "step by step" sequence of photos with the helpful comments. Experience is certainly very hard won sometimes, and thank you for sharing it with us. P

we are a little behind too, since we are STILL in NH... but then i have to remember that last year we were still building our kiln at this time and we survived the "big show".
love those covered jars!

Peter- it would be great for you to be close by! But what's a million hours? Come on over.
MH times a wasting!
