You know how I was talking about glaze that jumps off the pots?
Why did I tempt fate and even bring that up?
Mark peeked way back in the middle stack as we were unloading the front and said, there is something funny back there.
Not funny ha-ha-ha, but funny like you don't want to really know about that funny.
It is the funny like hitting your funny bone not so funny- funny....
So here you go:
Oh, look! The glaze that was on the pot when it went in the kiln jumped off and hit the shelf , and then melted... |
and landed on this wee cup on the shelf below and melted down the side. |
BUT- can you believe that this is now ground off? Oh, thank you kiln wash. |
Then again maybe it was me when I top coated this pot and most likely left it too long in the top glaze.
Too thick, the shape of the pots, the flame of the fire, the perfect storm.
Otherwise- it was a good firing with Collection pots for the Spring Furniture Market.
The Navy blue glaze is pretty amazing- so blue it seems black.
Cheers,
M

Shew. So glad it didn't drip on too many of it's gorgeous neighbors!
Rats! That's a beautiful pot. Did you salvage it?
thanks John!
Anna- I know- we feel a bit lucky that it did not do more!
Hi SS no fixing it but a good study will be conducted....
beautiful pots
oh my there's some luscious pots in there! Hope there were no more jumping glazes to be found! Just gorgeous colors!
Hi Judys! No more jumping glaze- it was so weird how it jumped- boogers! But- there were many good ones in there!
One of these days we are going to have to see those collection pot photos :) that runny pot sure is pretty, too bad you couldn't save it :(
Lord, the perils of the kiln.......
STILL looks gorgeous :)
wow glaze jumping off a pot, strange, thank goodness for kiln wash, that was a beautiful pot, but looks like a lot more in there.
When I was a Penland this summer a pot near one of my thrown rocks had a glaze jump off. Of course it landed on the rock but it did it in such a way that it actually looked good. Sometimes it's not all bad.
The pots are gorgeous. You all should be happy.
A mouse inside the kiln! I guess its a warm place but it might get a bit too hot in there : o
Great pieces, love how glossy they are!
