The big boys are going in the kiln, Johnny comes to Whynot and brings Mrs. G

First off because this is a pottery blog about our daily lives as potters I am posting up the loading of the kiln. We are putting in the big vases and bottles with a what ever will happen will happen attitude. There is that point where you just have to leave it to the kiln and heat to finish off what you have made. There is no way of knowing until you take this step. So here we go that pots are going in the kiln.

When we finished glazing the other day it was just too bloody hot to load and fire. So we left everything on the carts and took a breather to spend some time with new friends.
I had meet a blogger, Mrs.G, who had decided to drive cross county visiting, meeting and getting to know her many readers. At first Whynot was not on the list for a stop. I begged and promised food, shelter, rest, fun, a tour of pottery shops, food, laughs, food, can you see my where I was going.
Short of pure out and out begging and grovelling I kept my fingers crossed she was coming. I received an email that finally said she had worked it out and would be in NC, at Whynot, on the 3rd and 4th. Whoopee! Emails went off to fellow NC folks who wanted to come and meet her and the next thing you know we are a party. By the time Mrs. G rolled in off the highways we had several readers here and a husband, plus my Mark. We ate, laughed, ate, talked, ate had a few gin and tonics and felt like family although we had never meet each other in person before. Readers, it was a blast.

Mrs. G also brought along a friend on her trip (given to her by the Atlanta crowd).
 Johnny was in the house.
I had some time alone with Johnny this morning as he followed me around the yard on my morning chores.
We went out to check the blueberries.
  Over to open the shop.

 Over to water the garden.

You can see he wanted to stay with me.
But this morning we said a fond farewell as he headed down the highway with Heather to meet up with other readers of Mrs. G at Derfwad Manor.
Bye Heather!

You can check in on the travels here.

Meanwhile back to the kiln loading and firing.

It was a great time, new found family, just like you! We really need a way to beat this heat.
And Johnny----he was a real gentleman.

Hummmm, hummmm,
To become an alpha male I can see that I am going to have to invest in a funny shaped hat and mascara...., and rather a lot of hair, and a tan...., and muscles (sniff, sigh!)! Well, he might light someones fire, but can he stack and stoke a kiln? Ha!

Lovely for you to catch up with more of the blogging fraternity (and that Mr Depp!), sounds like real fun. Hope the kiln firing goes well, it is off putting to say the least when your daytime temperatures are almost hot enough to risk exploding damp work!! I guess you'll be firing at night. I'm doing another crystalline firing today, darn it, but hope to get the wood fired kiln puffing smoke again soon!

I too, found Mrs. G. through your blog Meredith. She sounds like a good time just follows her. Something must be right for Johnny Depp to be in her train.
Hope the firing goes well. The pots look magnificent. May the kiln gods be benevolent!

Ah, Peter my taste run a bit different from Johnny. I have to tell you it was a little strange to have him in the house. But then I thought he might be a great marketing tool!
So no fear he is not replacing Mark!
It was some great fun and if he had fit in the car we would have taken him pottery shopping.

The blogging community can be so much fun. And having Johhny follow you around all morning, that must have been an extra special treat. It made me smile anyway.

What fun! Isn't it amazing how strangers can become old friends so quickly? Glad you had a blast - and had some quality time with Johnny.

So many bloggers, so little time...
I'm glad Mrs. G. stopped to stay and have fun with you! And even though Johnny has moved on down (up?) the road, you can proudly post a sign that says "Johnny was here!" with that photo. What a conversation piece that would be!
