What's up Buttercup?

Hello!
It really does take a week to recover from a week's vacation.
We jumped right back into work when we really wanted to continue to travel.
In fact Mark is already looking at the next destination.
That one is going to take more planning and more money so we had better keep right on working.
So what are we up to.
Making pots for the baby gas kiln, firing the tiles for the awards. ( fingers crossed on this one, I know I have a curler or two in there.)
And just muddling through the hours.
we want one of these for the pond. What do you think- would people pay to come and let us paddle them around?
Now for the down and dirty list of things to make for the next firing.
Do you ever just go blank when you are throwing for the next kiln load or do you keep a list of things that you start with?
I use to keep a list that I pulled out of my head.
Now that the brain has too many list I have to write it down.
But number one on the list is always Mugs.

The tried and true of any potter, I mean, really, is there a potter who does not make mugs.
The mug is as close to the most simple art form I can think of.
An art form you get to hold and drink out of everyday.
I don't think the folks that are getting their coffee at the "bucks" think about what they are drinking out of.
It is just the delivery system to get the coffee in, pop open the computer and plug in or plug out.
The hand reaches for their cup with no thought and they drink with all thought on the computer.
What happen to the moments of picking the right cup for the day?
First the making of the coffee---smell it don't you.
And then the act of curling your hand around the handle, breathing deep as you go for the first sip.
Now that 's coffee drinking.
Better go make my self some.
Cheers!
M

I've made a couple of mugs in my day. Ha. Gary just saw a self paddle boat on craigslist that would work in your pond, he told me it would be good excercise. Ha.

I would be the lone potter not making mugs:) Mugs and me just don't get along, although I just made coffee and I pulled out a mug that I made several years ago with Brandon Phillips help, with a shino glaze. It's a rather nice mug, but I don't like making them. Glad you do because I reach your your mug quite often!
On my list right now, houses, houses, houses.....

YES! You need a boat like that WITH a Tiki Bar at the shore :) LOVE those mugs!

I think mugs were the first things I made when I became serious about pottery. I still have some of my very early ones. The thrown ones look pretty dumpy but the hand built ones look ok.

As for lists: I start with lists but they generally morph into strange paths.

You know, there was a time when I thought i didn't sell many mugs. This year, that's all changed. I actually like mugs, though pulling handles is not my favorite thing. Still, once they're all handled and sitting on a board looking all family-like, I am generally happy about having them. Then, of course, I have to make more for the next show.
And yes, you should buy a surplus Boston Swan Boat for the pond. Absolutely.

These comments make me smile.
Seems we all have a bit of trouble following those list.
And Hollis- I love the "family like"- what a nice way to think of all those mugs.
You, Ang and Cindy need to come if we get that cool party barge for the pond- it would be grand.

I'm with Cindy, but put the Tiki Bar on the boat.

hi meredith, does that boat have a giant swan on one end? if so, you should definitely get one for your pond... or a fire breathing swan might be even better. i guess i've been reading too many dragon stories. nice cups in the picture. i don't make lists for anything and never have. i just register it in my brain and when the time comes, i've completely forgotten anything about it. but i hate lists still... i'm gonna go get a cup of coffee now

oh yes a swan indeed- and we just need one!

Now I'm intrigued where your next adventure will take you! I always have to take a new mug in hand, to find the one that fits me perfectly. Nothing better than a handmade mug!
