Love that birdhouse! Can you explain for us non potters the bent cone thingy in the top photo? Is it some sort of temperature gauge for the kiln to see how hot it got?
Yes, it is a cone plaque. Each cone melts at a certain temperature. Those are cone 8,9 and 10. We want all the cones to at least bend to cone 10. That means all the glazes and clay body are matured. There is usually some differences top to bottom. This load was hot in the middle and a bit cool on the bottom shelf and for some reason, the very top shelf.

It went pretty well. A few seconds, but nothing we can't live with.
