Tiny but powerful

The snow yesterday came down in the smallest flakes I have even seen, but they all seem to band together well enough to stick and build up.
There is only about 3 inches out there and it took all day to accumulate before we added a bit of freezing rain on top.
This morning all seems to be very quiet.

We did slide over and get a bit of work done but what is it about snow that is so distracting?
Do people who live with this all the time just move along and don't stop in wonder and amazement.
Here in the south we want to get out the board games, put on the kettle, get out the needle point and sit by the fire.
We can wait for it all to be gone.

But I do love how I can look at a picture and it feels as if time just stopped.
That some how this snow just stopped the clock.
Slow down, take a breath.
Do something out of the ordinary.
Or just sit and watch the snow pile up.
So today is grout day for a mirror.
I get to go out and see what the weather will bring today.
Yes, I would rather sit by the fire.
How about you?

It's nice to hear about snow from someone who doesn't get it all the time~ helps me see it from a new angle! We are waiting for it to hit us tonight...and hoping for a snow day tomorrow :) If so, I will paint the bathroom and do some mending...projects that have been patiently waiting for me!

so if we continue this snow stuff I have to think of things that need to be done besides just watching movies and baking bread....
You NY folks are as tough as the ones from Alaska!

Beautiful shots of your studio! I'll be sitting by the fire, but it will be a Raku fire :) I am finding this snow completely distracting and we have all been in the same house together for way too long! Cabin fever is definitely attacking us.

I live in an area with snowy winters, more on the way tonight and tomorrow. Your post reminds me to look out the window at the woods, go for a walk to the beaver pond, maybe even get out my camera.sm

I thought the head on your post referred to yourself, Medredith. That storm of yours is headed this way tonight. Can't wait ...

I grew up in Montana and now live in North Carolina. I am not fond of the cold, but my son gets very excited. We just sprinkled some seed on the deck to see if birds would come over.

Hollis- you are so kind! I never think of myself as tiny!
:)!
But Dan did tell me in front of Mark that I am remarkable and now I remind Mark of that ALL the time!

Sorry you are getting this mess- it is a mess!

Good day from a very snowy place. Yes, we who live with winter about five months of the year do have to get on with the day despite the cold..that doesn't mean we like it,though:-)...and there is a limit to what we'll take! ha!(like we have a choice)..It is the 'cold snaps' and the blizzards that are hard to get around in. This week for example the temp. is not rising much past -20 to -28C and this morning in some parts of Alberta the temperature with the wind chill is -35+..so THAT is when it is COLD and dangerous to be 'out and about', but we are a hardy bunch and life does go on. Blizzard days and extreme cold days are our 'snow days' when some of us can enjoy being housebound. I spent a few years in Vancouver and the dull grey wet days of winter were depressing to this prairie girl. I would rather have -30 with sunshine (well, now that I am much older...the -30's are getting harder to take!!haha), but, heh, it is almost the middle of January, so spring is just around the corner! :)
Whatever the temperatures, enjoy the creative days. I am off to clean my studio!
Meredith, did you get my email re: the generosity chain query?
Keep warm.! Trish from Alberta

During the cold and snow, I miss long days of being outside. We only go out long enough to make sure everyone is taken care and warm in the barn. My studio is not heated so my clay freezes and I have learned to bring some in to my mud room to thaw so I can throw with a bucket of hot water, wearing my coat, with a space heater by my wheel. You are right, though, the snow and cold seems to slow everything down. We were cold yesterday - we got down below 0 F last night, the snow was squeaky under my feet when I walked out to the barn. The forecast says we will have a high in the 30's this weekend, and it is funny how excited we got and how productive that made us feel...we will be working outside for sure!

I love reading your blog because the way you write is like haiku...so lovely.

I remember when I lived in Kentucky and when it snowed everything shut down. Now living in Wyoming, we would have to be burried under 10 feet of snow before things bet shut down.

M - by folding paper, do you mean origami? If so, we all need to see pictures! AND also, I am jealous because I am not good at things like that (even though I've tried).

I will pay you $5 to order needlework supplies so the sun comes out. Speaking of which, I'm running out of beads...wonder if that would work for me, too. :)

Julia- I am looking but it has to be something besides puppies, violets or kittens!

Lovely and serene photos! We need a bit more snow up here (if you can believe that!) we've had too much clear and freezing cold temps, evaporating the pretty snow layer we had built up. I do love a good storm because it seems to calm everybody down but these long, dark winters up here make it way too easy to put on the extra pounds! No need to work, I better go skiing....
