 The Celebration of Spring Pottery Tour takes place on the weekend of April 22, 23 and 24, 2022 10 am to 5 pm.

This is the weekend

for you to come to the area to visit pottery shops there will be over 50 shops with kiln openings, studio tours, demonstrations, and special events.

 If you participate in the Card Stamp program you will be entered to win a $150 gift certificate to use at one participating shop. Just pick up a card at the first pottery you stop in, get it stamped and then carry it to the other shops for more stamps. You can leave this at a participating shop at the end of the day and they will turn them into the group for the drawing. 

If you have any questions or need some input into planning your trip let us know, we are always happy to help.  The big question is always, will there be cookies?

Tiles and those crazy small items.

 I was pretty pleased with the firing for the last bit of tiles. I am always trying something new because that is just how the brain works.
And, I am always trying something new because I don't pay attention to the glazes and pick up the wrong glaze. The wings on the dragonfly below were in one glaze, and, then, just like magic, I picked up the wrong glaze and covered it with another glaze.
Well, let's just see what it does.
I like it. Can I repeat it? Maybe.

 The reason I take so many pictures is to remind me to remember what I did.
I can't remember why I walked into a room any more. When I go to glaze I start thinking again, maybe thinking too much. There are times you just need that inner voice to go silent.

The small tiles below I have made and glazed in the past usually using several glazes. This time I was under a time limit and just tossed them in a single glaze. I like them as well and I think they would be great as an accent in a bath or kitchen.

The Spring kiln Opening

 It was a beautiful day for a kiln opening last Saturday. We had a steady flow of customers all day and finally closed just after 5 pm. It felt like the weekends we use to have and we had a great time visiting with, talking with and sharing what we do with old and new customers.
Sunday was a wash out, it rained and that seem to put a bit of dampness on the day.
Yesterday we took the day off, it was much needed.

The spring flowers showed off for us and, as usual, I shared a few sedum with fellow gardeners. I am not a great gardener and less so these days due to the fact that the grass takes over and lately I just let it.

 I have become more fond of the flowers that come back on their own, finding cracks here or there, taking advantage of an empty space to toss me some unexpected flowers or lemon balm.
I would love to have some tomatoes show up somewhere.

Below is a picture from the shop back wall. I really enjoy using this piece to show pottery on. I wanted to use it in the house and just could not find a good place for it.

 My tools that I pack for the day I teach, pretty slack but it works.This is my my lazy potter's tip. I tried for awhile not taking any tools at all. I would grab a few from our tools at school, just enough to demo a pot here or there but I found I missed some of my ribs. And, my sponges on a stick.
We have put some wheels up off the floor which I like better for demo since I throw pots standing up.
Mark has headed out to the studio, I had better show up soon.

We are

glazing for another fire in Ms. B.
I have been taking the time to glaze some of the pots as I get a day free instead of the days of glazing we used to do.
Working in a smaller kiln has it's limitations in the amount of work going in this kiln, but we don't see that as a bad thing these days as we see less traffic. We are well stocked in the store, with pottery set aside in the studio as well.
As Mark works on the thrown work I am playing (?) with more tiles and some of the new giraffes I added in last year and this year.
This one grabs me. I am mixing up the way I layer in the glaze to make him a bit different.

 I just wish Lee was here to see how far some of her designs have gone. We were struggling with glaze combinations early on, making some of the common errors one can make with any new idea you want to carry through.
I have played with many ideas and colors before settling into some that I think are working well.
I am always subject to how the glaze goes on, too thick, too thin. Most of these glazes will brush very well, others need a bit of coxing to apply the way I want them too.

I still have moments where I pick up the wrong brush and apply it to the wrong area.  That can either be a big whoops or it can be a great mistake. Then I have to remember what I made the mistake with.

I know you know what I mean...

After March comes April- put us on your calendar and come on out. We'd be happy to see you, 

It is not always about what you can see

 but, what you can't see that is the answer.

It was good to have taken some pictures of many of the pots out of Ms. B to have a record of what was glazed and how.
Even though you think you will remember what you did there is that moment when you are faced with the buckets of glaze and new pots, and, you don't have the time to think it all through again.
The quick snap of a camera can be a useful tool.

New glazes, new ideas.

I love the softness of this glaze.
And, the shape of the new mugs.

Salt Jars

This has become my new favorite pot in the kitchen. It is easy to use, easy to move around and I really like having a spoon for the salt.
I have plenty of these to choose from for our spring open house coming up in April.
